Fort Frances
Project type
Masterplan
Location
Fort Frances, Ontario
The project focused on the revitalization of Fort Frances’ waterfront following the demolition of the former pulp and paper mill, which left a large area of underused land with the potential to serve the broader Fort Frances community. Sputnik Architecture assisted in developing a master plan to transform the site into a vibrant public destination featuring outdoor gathering spaces, parks, sports courts, and recreational amenities, as well as new residential and commercial buildings within the area.
The work also included schematic design for a new four-storey (64,000 sq ft) health centre with a physicians clinic, pharmacy, optometrist clinic, and residential units, as well as the adaptive reuse of an existing warehouse into a two-storey (200,000 sq ft) Indigenous-led health and social services centre. 3D renderings and fly-through videos were developed to communicate the vision, alongside an extensive community engagement process involving residents of Fort Frances and surrounding communities.
